Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), and Contakt Tech Solutions India Pvt Ltd, a VAS technology company have announced the launch of Express alert, a USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) based mobile value added services for MTNL subscribers.

MTNL's subscribers will get alerts on astrology, cricket scores, news, stock, religious content, etc. by subscribing to these services. The frequency of alerts sent in the day depends upon the type of service subscribed. MTNL will start offering 21 different services from today and the service list will be expanded to around a 100 services in due course.

The USSD messages are menu based and do not have the concept of store and forward, as they don't get stored on the handset after receipt. Customers can avail the service even while roaming.

J Gopal , Executive Director, MTNL, said, "MTNL is always striving to provide best services to its customers. With ever growing customer base, value added services are becoming an important feature and MTNL being a leader in the space continues to bring to its customers the best of services. We are really happy to partner with M/s Contakt Tech solutions who are the leaders in providing such services in India."

Subscribers need to dial *123# to get alerts. Each service is priced at Rs. 30 per month and a combo pack is also available ranging from Rs. 30 to Rs. 50 per month.
