First the Samsung Galaxy S then the HTC Droid Incredible and Motorola Droid, now the porting is taken to a non-Android phone, a Nokia to be precise. Android Community comes with information of a certain Alexey Roslyakov (aka DrunkDebugger on his twitter account) who has ported Android’s version 2.3 Gingerbread on the Nokia N900. Now this gives the N900’s otherwise plain and simple Maemo 5 OS something else with an altogether different OS. Gingerbread tastes yum! NITDroid’s link shows a whole list of the working and non-working components in the Gingerbread-ported N900. For now, the ambient light sensor, front and back cameras, FM Radio and GPS are listed as not working. There is no word of whether it will work when the OS will become fully functional on the phone. The 3G service is listed as partially working while the Wi-Fi and Accelerometer are listed as “working not done” (whatever that means). Chances are that the NITDroid team is working on the Wi-Fi and the Accelerometer and hasn't arrived to any conclusion as of now. All the components in the software section like Flash, Google Apps, Android Market has been listed as working. The build is labeled as "unstable" so maybe after a few minor (and major) tweaks we could see Gingerbread running full-fledged on the N900. |
