UTStarcom, provider of IP-based, end-to-end networking solutions and services, and Reliance Communications have announced the launch of India's first CDMA Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC—the Reliance Mobile Pocket PC PPC 6700.

The multi-functional service with data and video transmission capabilities of up to 144 kbps and average download speeds ranging from 60-80 kbps on Reliance Communications' high-speed network is targeted at the enterprise segment and executives on the move.

We are glad to partner with Reliance Communications Ltd. for the distribution of our award-winning PPC 6700 in India. This is in keeping with UTStarcom's ongoing endeavor to provide the technologically best and most cost-efficient solutions to our customers across the nation," said Vijay Yadav, managing director of South Asia operations at UTStarcom. "With the power and flexibility of the new Windows Mobile 5.0 software platform and the speed of the Reliance network, mobile information workers will now have the freedom to stay connected whenever and wherever they want."

This compact, feature-packed PDA phone running on Windows Mobile 5.O sports a slide-out text keyboard, and three separate radios: CDMA EV-DO ready, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. Other key features include a 1.3 mega pixel camera with video capture, miniSD card slot, touch screen, speakerphone, and the full suite of Windows Mobile 5.0 software. The 'Reliance Mobile Pocket PC' is available through Reliance Communication's business sales channels, with servicing capabilities across eight cities in India.

"The Reliance Mobile Pocket PC is a step forward in our endeavor to provide the best and most competitive services that harness technology for enhancing effectiveness," said Prakash Bajpai, president and chief executive officer at Reliance Communications—Enterprise Business. "We are confident that the enriched features, easy-to-use applications and high-speed download capabilities of the device will add significant value to the upwardly mobile customers on Reliance Communications' network and offer them the ability to integrate their business applications seamlessly across the broadband infrastructure to mobile use."
