Sony Announces 12MP CMOS Image Sensor Lens

14 Nov, 2008, 5:29 pm IST | by Shayne Rana | Mobile phones

If you think the buck stopped at 8 megapixel camera phone sensors you'd be dead wrong. Sony has recently announced that they have developed three new Exmor CMOS sensors - 5.15, 8.11 and 12.25 megapixels. Yes, that’s right 12.25 megapixel. Of course they haven’t been incorporated into any handsets just yet so we’ll have to wait a bit on that front.

According to reports, the IMX060PQ, would be the world’s first effective 12.25 megapixel CMOS type lens. The second one announced is the U060F (1/2.5 type lens module at 12.25Mpix).

They’ve even included an image taken with the IMX060PQ lens.
