Tag Heuer, the famous Swiss watch maker, has also decided to get on the mobile bandwagon and has designed the MERIDIIST (catchy name) – an ultra luxury handset on the same lines as the Vertu. In fact a few sites have even termed it as the ‘Vertu Killer’. The watchmaker has tied up with Modelabs and it seems like that’s the company to get in touch with if you’re a hotshot luxury brand and want to get into the electronics and gizmo game. The handset is engineered and hand assembled from 430 components. The MERIDIIST is made from corrosion-resistant steel and has scratch resistant 60.5 carats sapphire crystal dual displays (the main display and the display on the top for the watch). It has a 1.9 inch QVGA display, while the secondary display is a monochrome OLED screen. According to Tag Heuer the handset can pull off 7 hours of talk-time. Other than that, the MERIDIIST sports a 2 megapixel camera, media player and Bluetooth. The handset should be out sometime in September of this year and brandish an outrageous price of Rs. 2, 21, 000 (euro 3500). It'll be available at Tag Heuer boutiques and select multi-brand retail outlets across Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahemdabad and Kolkata. Via Mobiledia. |
