Yahoo! SMS Backup Launched in India

22 Sep, 2006, 3:00 pm IST | Aalaap Ghag | Mobile phones

A common problem faced by many Indian mobile phone users is the usually limited space available to store SMSes that they want to cherish. With some entry level phones coming with barely 20-30 slots for messages, saving the messages online on the internet seems like a great idea. Yahoo! SMS Backup is just that. Simply forward your SMS to a given number and they'll all arrive in your Yahoo! Mail box. Convenient.

However, even though the service is free, the service provider charges per SMS are as high as Rs 3 for Airtel, Rs 2 for Hutch or BPL and Re. 1 for MTNL or BSNL, so it seems like a slightly expensive backup. But if you really want to hold on to that message, this shouldn't deter you.

Register on the Yahoo! SMS Backup site (requires Yahoo! ID) to use the service.
