Airtel, like Vodafone to remove inactive numbers from network

The telecom department's decision to allocate phone numbers of users who's numbers were inactive for over 60 days, to those who're active had compelled Vodafone to discontinue prepaid numbers. Following close on Vodafone's heels is Airtel, who also plans to discontinue services to phone numbers not used for more than 60 days, reports TheMobileIndian.

Airtel is next to discontinue inactive numbers

Needless to say, once a number is found inactive for over 60 days, it will be deactivated and allocated to some other user. As one of our readers had earlier pointed out, this could bring in some unnecessary phone calls from the previous owner’s contact lists. Besides, this could be a cause of worry for those with multiple SIMs or SIMs reserved only for distant travels. Reportedly, Airtel spokesperson has confirmed this move and they plan to inform users alongside a detailed statement, which will be issued soon. The new rule by DoT may soon compel all telecom users to folow suit, in order to keep up with the increasing demand for mobile phone numbers.
