Several wireless telecom service providers operational in the country suffered a setback when the government stated that they would have to put an end to their 3G roaming agreements. Simply put, these telecom service providers' attempts to offer 3G services to users in areas they do not have spectrum licenses in will be deemed illegal. A ray of hope for the telcos?
Now, however, Bloomberg Businessweek confirms that The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has stepped in to address the disputes and woes over the 3G roaming agreements of the wireless service providers, thus putting the government ruling on a backburner, for now. Reportedly, the TDSAT will meet the operators and hear their grievances against this particular decision of the government on January 3, 2012.
If the government will rethink on its decision, after TDSAT stepped in will only be revealed a little later. For now, however, TDSAT has proven to be the proverbial silver lining for the wireless service providers in the country. |
