A report in Times of India states that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has found some irregularities in the way Vodafone handles the MNP (mobile number portability) requests it receives. The report states that Vodafone has been rejecting several MNP requests sent by its users citing contractual obligations. But, the report quotes TRAI as saying that despite users confirming that they didn't sign up for any such facility, Vodafone still cited it as a reason. Also, only those who's complaints got forwarded were allowed to shift. As of May 24, this year, the TRAI added new rules to the MNP's contractual obligations category, according to which unless the amount of subscriber dues exceeded Rs.10, telecom operators cannot refuse the consumer asking for number porting. MNP woes!
The Mobile Number Portability has been one of telecom industry's most popular services, which the lay consumer readily lapped up, since it put them in a win-win situation of not only sticking to their numbers, but also availing the best schemes around. |
