LG announces glasses-free DX2500 3D monitor

LG Electronics have just announced their new DX2500 3D monitor that does not require you to wear glasses. The monitor is based on the parallax barrier 3D and head-tracking technology, which involves a film on the screen itself that splits the light for each eye to create the effect. The monitor is already available in their hometown, Korea and will be heading to the rest of the world in early 2012.

Their FPR 3D TV's and monitors proved to be a runaway hit, and come next year, we'll see more glass-less 3D monitors hitting the shelves. The new DX2500 uses a built-in camera in the bezel to track the direction and angle of the user’s eye to offer the best 3D effect, no matter where the user is seated. We're not sure how this will work for multiple users, though, as presumably the camera would only work for the person sitting in front of it. Still, it's an improvement in the viewing angle's department, as you no longer have to sit at precisely the same spot to get the full effect. On the downside, we aren't sure how multiple users can watch a 3D movie together as the camera would have to keep track of multiple pair of eyeballs, which is something LG haven't touched upon in the press release. The monitor will also have 2D to 3D conversion capabilities that work with photos, video and games.
