GIGABYTE Takes on Asus R.O.G With New G1.Sniper 2 Z68 Motherboard

09 Aug, 2011, 11:39 am IST | by Roydon Cerejo | Motherboards

Asus has always been an enthusiast, crowd favourite when it comes to high-end gaming motherboards. Now, GIGABYTE is jumping on the bandwagon with their own version of the Z68 motherboard to compete with Asus’s R.O.G line up. The G1.Sniper 2 is the second iteration of the ‘Sniper series’ and this time is based around Intel’s latest Z68 chipset. The design for the motherboard was inspired from a M4 Carbine submachine gun, so the heatsinks around the CPU area resemble the muzzle of the gun and the Southbridge uses a magazine clip like heatsink, all inter-connected with a heatpipe. There’s no word on the pricing or when it’s going to be available, as of now.

Key features include PCIE Gen. 3 support for future graphics cards. It also has CrossFireX, SLI support and switchable graphics with LucidLogix Virtu technology. For sound, we have Creative’s Soundblaster X-Fi processor built into the motherboard. This includes a headphone amplifier and Nichicon high-end audio capacitors for distortion free sound. This wouldn’t be a high-end gaming motherboard without Bigfoot Network’s Killer E2100 network card for superior online gaming performance. Unlike Asus’s R.O.G motherboard, the network card is built into the board instead of being an add-on card. This LAN card comes with its own processing chip and memory so the CPU is left idle during online gaming. Apart from these exclusive features, we have Gigabytes own Touch BIOS, Ultra Durable 3, 8-phase power and Dual BIOS.
