There has been news about Intel’s Z68 chipset for a while now. CeBIT 2011 is currently on in Hannover, Germany and boards based on the new chipsets are on display. ASUS, Gigabyte and MSI were some of the brands to show off their boards. ASUS showed off their P8PZ68-V Pro board where MSI displayed their Z68A-GD80 and Gigabyte, their Z68X-UD4H. Both the ASUS and MSI boards support LucidLogix Vertu, which simple allows switching over of load from the CPU to a discrete graphics solution.

While the Z68 is almost identical to the P67 and H67 chipset, the key difference is the RST (Rapid Storage Technology) SSD caching feature. The feature is supposed to allowing paging and caching to take place on SSDs rather on the hard drive. There’s bound to some performance boost for sure but obviously only if you’re using a SSD and the same can be expected on laptops should the chipset end up there. Some of the other features including better overclocking features for GPU as well as the CPU. The boards are expected to hit the market around mid-2011.
