The base spec is now available to all members of the PCI-SIG (download requires membership). The spec is a low-cost, high-performance I/O technology that has a 128b/130b encoding scheme and a data rate of 8 gigatransfers per second (GT/s). That is double the available bandwidth of PCIe 2.0. According to the PCIe, the x1 PCIe slot is capable of doing 1GB/s while a x16 lane will see the transfer rate jump to 32 GB/s.

The original PCIe specification supported 2.5GT/s and PCIe 2.0 supported 5GT/s. The PCIe 3.0 spec's 8 GT/s which will provide quite a boost to your gaming performance. So once these specifications are available to manufacturers, expect to see a lot of video cards supporting PCIe 3.0.
