Samsung Announces S5620 Monte in India

Samsung seems to have taken a break from the Corby launches but that hasn’t deterred the Korean company from launching other new devices in the country. Their latest is a slim sleek looking touchscreen handset called the S5620 aka the Monte. No big deal, mobile handsets are launched in the dozens, but the Monte is designed to offer users a full range of services from connectivity to media that will rival their own Corby series.


The Monte will be using Samsung’s TouchWiz 2.0 UI and features -
  • a 3-inch capacitive touchscreen with a 240 x 400 pixel resolution,
  • 3G support with support for EDGE/GPRS as well,
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP, USB (micro)
  • GPS with A-GPS support
  • 3 megapixel camera featuring geo-tagging and smile detection
  • Samsung’s DNSe for music
  • MicroSD card support (up to 16GB)
  • A 3.5mm handsfree port
It’s a bold step incorporating so much functionality into a device that is priced at approximately Rs. 8,850 though I’m assuming that’s just the MOP. The MRP would be much higher, presumably in the Rs. 12,000 – Rs. 15,000 range. The one media aspect that the handset seems to be lacking in is DivX and XviD video codec support. Nevertheless it still seems like something to save up for, stay tuned for the review.

Update: Our sources tell us that the handset will be officially launched some time next week but they haven't decided the MRP as yet.
