Dual-mode phones have now got the entire country talking after UTStarcom and Yulong demo'd their GSM+CDMA phones at Mobile Asia 2006. Not to be left out of the discussion, Samsung has also come forward with their SCH-W579 dual-mode phone that does tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900) and CDMA (800/1900) both. It has a 2-megapixel digital camera, 20 MB built-in memory with a memory card slot as well. Slashphone doesn't say what kind of a slot, but I'm guessing TransFlash/microSD. The phone also has an OCR feature to read text off business card pictures taken with the camera, an MP3/AAC music player and Picsel for reading Microsoft Office documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Bluetooth and Infrared. ![]() As of now, this is only going to be available on China Unicom, but with the dual-mode hysteria brewing up, Samsung should really bring this to India. Please! Both my phones are Samsungs and I'd love to have just one! Read more on IT168 via Slashphone. |
