Sony Ericsson Announces GreenHeart Elm Phone and Handsfree

Sony Ericsson, in their recent effort to go green had announced earlier this month, three new handsets under a new label called GreenHeart. One of the handsets, the Elm has found its way to our shelves together with their new Bluetooth Noise Shield Handsfree, theVH700.

“With green being the mantra going into the New Year, Sony Ericsson also announced today, the intention to make all accessories greenheart compliant by 2011. With the Elm phones Sony Ericsson gives you the power to block background noise, with the Noise shield, Clear Voice and intelligent Volume Adaptation. Keeping in line with the Communication Entertainment proposition, the phone offers an easy-to-use social networking experience featuring the Widget Manager application, which allows users access their social networking page via the stand-by screen and quickly switch between different social networks,” said Peter Ang, Vice President of Marketing of Asia Pacific at Sony Ericsson.

“Building on the established heritage of our parent companies we have worked continuously to maintain our leadership position by committing to reduce our own CO2 emissions by 20 per cent and product life cycle CO2 emissions by 15 per cent by 2015. The Sony Ericsson Elm phone and the VH700 are a testament of our continued commitment to the environment and are part of the ongoing roll-out of our GreenHeart strategy announced in June 2009” said Mats Pellbck Scharp, Environmental Director at Sony Ericsson.

The Sony Ericsson Elm phone and the VH700 all benefit the environment and help reduce CO2 emissions through:

  • Green calculator
  • Minimized packaging
  • Condensed user guide (VH700)
  • Waterborne paint (VH700)
The Sony Ericsson Elm phone is designed with a Natural fit style with a human curvature and ergonomic keypad that fits in the palm of a hand. It’s also designed to be Splash Resistant. It also offers a feature called, Feel secure that allows you to back up your personal information over the air on Sonyericsson.com, as well as access to popular social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.

Other features include -
  • a 2.2-inch TFT LCD with a 240 x 320 pixel resolution

  • 3G, EDGE, GPRS

  • Wi-FI, Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP, USB 2.0

  • GPS with A-GPS support

  • an FM radio
  • 
5MP camera with geotagging, face and smile detection 

  • MicroSD card support for additional memory
The Elm phone will be shipped with a GreenHeart personal handsfree; the Stereo Portable Handsfree HPM-60J. The pricing of the handset and handsfree has yet to be announced.
