Google unveiled the Chrome Operating System for Netbooks late last year, and even brought out some netbooks bearing the Google brand name and the OS. The CR-48s have failed to generate any real interest from manufacturers however, and the adoption rate for now must be well below what Google expected in the beginning. However, ASUS seem to be keen on getting in on the bandwagon.Chroming your way soon?

According to Digitimes, ASUS are poised to release a $200 - $250 (~Rs. 9,000 - Rs. 11,250) Netbook in June, which will be powered by an Intel Atom processor and be based either on the Chrome OS, or another one of Google’s, the tablet-optimized Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

This netbook will provide ample competition to tablets by providing a low-cost alternative. Hopefully the netbooks’ performance will hold its own against the more powerful recent tablets because at that price point, it’s very likely to only be powered by a single core CPU.
