New "Medical Device Profile' for Bluetooth

| The committee behind the wireless technology Bluetooth has put forward a draft of a new profile called ‘Medical Device Profile' that will facilitate interoperability of capable personal Bluetooth devices and health and fitness monitoring equipment. Users of MDP-enabled devices will be able to track their statistics and information provided by the equipment, which could be anything from a blood-pressure checking (a sphygmomanometer, if you will) device to a treadmill. This info can then be given to doctors or trainers for analysis. Medical Device Profile will be compatible with the Ultra Wideband (UWB) standard when it rolls out, so bandwidth for all the data zapping about will not be an issue. |
