Sify Launches WiMAX With Mobility Features

Sify has launched a first of its kind WiMAX solution with mobility features, in collaboration with Proxim wireless Corp.

Sify has deployed Proxim's Tsunami MP.11 WiMAX product line as the core communication platform, using the 5.8 GHz frequency band to offer Internet access, voice and video broadband services to enterprises and end consumers, in over 200 locations in India.

S. Bhaskar, Chief Technology officer, Sify Ltd. said, "WiMAX is the future of wireless internet communication, especially in fast developing countries like India.With this launch, Sify has made a timely and strategic addition to its connectivity solutions portfolio. We are confident that this offering will enhance our customers’ experience and help us cater to their fast growing wireless information needs."

Bhaskar highlighted that their point to point connectivity offers mobility up to 30 kilometers while point to multipoint connectivity offers mobility ranging from 3 to 5 kilometers.

Lionel Chmilewsky, Senior vice president, International Proxim Wireless said, "As India's Premier provider of Internet access services, Sify is setting the standard for delivering the triple play of voice , data and video subscribers, wherever they are located throughout the country."

Proxim's Tsunami MP.11 product family of base stations, indoor and outdoor subscriber units and accessories has been developed to enable WiMAX capabilities for license-free bands. The series supports converged video, voice and data transmission in both fixed and mobile applications.
