Matsushita Introduces Waterproof Laptop

The notebook market has seen ultra-light laptops to full-blown desktop replacements and the sheer number of new features being added is just overwhelming. So when I saw a press release for Panasonic's new laptop, which was being advertised as one of the few waterproof machines, it did catch me completely off-guard. On the desktop side, waterproof keyboards have been around a while but to extend it to a laptop... well that is innovation.
The new Let's Note CF-Y5 features a waterproof sheet and special drainage system that protects the hard drive and circuit board from water damage - CF-Y5 can withstand a force equivalent to a maximum 220 pounds. Features wise it is future ready with a 1.5 GHz Intel L2300 Core Duo processor, a 14.1-inch 1,400x1,050 pixel display, up to 1 GB of RAM, 802.11a/b/g wireless networking, up to 60 GB hard disk storage, built-in Ethernet, a DVD burner, a PC slot, SD expansion, and VGA output.
The laptop is expected to hit Japanese stores on May 19 with a price tag of around 265,000 yen.
