RIP white Macbook

Remember when the white Macbook came out? It was exciting for many as a break from the usual aluminium body that Apple notebooks usually came with. Now, that same white Macbook is destined to be a piece of retro. According to MacRumors, Apple is pulling out the white Macbook from its product lines and calling the event, "The End of Life". Apple had actually ended the white Macbook line last year in July when the Macbook Air was overhauled as Apple's entry level notebook however, the surplus units of the Macbook Air were being distributed to educations institutions; to students and schools. Apple was also pushing buyers towards the 13 inch Macbook Pro when discontinuing the white Macbook last year. 

Rest in peace, buddy

Apple has reportedly notified sellers too that they are discontinuing production on the white Macbook and are ending the distribuion channel as well. The white Macbook was launched back in 2006. That was around the same time when the Powerbook overhauled towards the Macbook Pro. The Macbook itself replaced the iBook as part of the Apple-Intel transition. The white Macbook's partner in polycarbonate crime, the black Macbook was discontinued in 2008 when the Macbook returned to the aluminuim unibody fashion. In 2009, Apple updated the white Macbook to have a unibody polycarbonate design. 

The white Macbook was commended for making chiclet keyboards the norm for Apple's consumer laptops as well as wide screen displays. It was also the first consumer Apple product to use Intel processors. Some of the earlier polycarbonates were criticized for suffering from random shutdowns, however, Apple released firmware to address the issue. There were also complaints of discoloured or chipping palmrests. Edges of the palm rest and screen bezel were literally chipping and peeling off. Apple announced to owners of those devices to contact Apple care. In some Macbooks, the rubber bottom would bubble and peel off. Apple said they would replace those devices for free, with or without warranty.
