Veteran animator Walt Disney has been traversing with all the video formats available, to display their work since the last 60 odd years, and they don’t need to halt. For the new generation of children, they have adapted the new generation of video, that is Blu-Ray. Disney has announced the first BD Live Blu-ray titles for release in 2008. The discs, which include National Treasure and Sleeping Beauty, will feature web-enabled bonus material and picture-in-picture extras. The latter will offer viewers a virtual castle to explore. Disney president Bob Chapek says that the brand’s classic animation titles “are the crown jewels of the Disney Studio, and we do not take releasing them lightly on any format. The proven Blu-ray technology has allowed us to take our films to new heights, fully utilizing the larger capacity and interactive capabilities for an incredible all-new consumer experience.” Finding Nemo and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe will be issued with Full BD Java interactivity which can only be accessed by Blu-ray players compliant with Profile 1.1. No Blu-ray players currently available will be able to access the extra functionality of these discs. The Blu-ray Disc Association has mandated that all players released after October 31 must conform to Profile 1.1. |
