Plextor today announced its new PlexEraser PX-OE100E CD/DVD destroyer. PlexEraser claims to be an environmentally friendly way to destroy CDs and DVDs for security conscious companies. It is a standalone unit, not requiring a computer to function. The drive is an alternative to disc shredders. According to Michael Arbisi, Vice President-Channel, physically breaking the discs can let the organic dye escape, in turn damaging the environment. Eight types of CD/DVD’s are supported which include CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, and DVD+R DL discs. Smaller 8cm discs are also supported. The average destroying time for single layer CD/DVD’s is three minutes and dual layer discs take around six minutes. The drive is pretty silent with noise output at 35 decibels and also consumes less power. It is supposed to ship in north and south America next month with a MSRP of $249.99. For more read here. |
