Sony Blu-ray Drive Now Supports Movies

30 Sep, 2006, 4:30 pm IST | by Jayesh Mansukhani | Optical drives

Dailytech has reported that Sony who had earlier announced that its BWU-100A Blu-Ray burner would not be able to playback commercial Blu-ray movies has today reversed its earlier announcement.

Owners of the drive will now be able to play commercial movies with the availability of a software update for the bundled Cyberlink PowerDVD software. Sony and Cyberlink will be providing this update free.

This is a good move as there are a lot of end-users who have either the ATI Radeon x1000 series or Nvidia Geforce 7 series video cards that will have no trouble with Blu-Ray playback. This move might increase the uptake of the drive.
