Toshiba one of the prime supporters of HD-DVD has unveiled the first HD-DVD writer for notebook PCs. The drive called the SD-L902A can be integrated into laptops. This is fully backwards compatible with all current CD and DVD formats and will allow laptop users to write to high-definition audio visual content. The SD-L902A due to its standard size of 12.7mm height can fit into the drivebay of most laptops. It utilizes a blue-violet laser diode to read and write HD DVD-R discs and supports high-density HD DVD-ROM discs, including high-definition movie and video images. In a statement, Maciek Brzeski, vice president - marketing, Toshiba SDD, said, "As high-definition digital media moves into the mainstream, consumers are adopting products that accommodate this improved image experience, from large-screen televisions to digital video camcorders and mobile PCs. Toshiba's new HD-DVD writer allows mobile PC manufacturers to integrate high-definition digital video editing capabilities into their products, giving consumers a complete high-definition experience for their original content. Toshiba expects to ship working samples of the new drive by next year hence notebooks featuring this drive can be expected then. |
