SanDisk Corp., the world's leading maker of flash memory data storage cards, plans to open 2,000 stores with local partners in India in the near future, the company said in a statement on Wednesday. "Our plans are to start with 2,000 stores in the coming weeks and increase to 14,000-plus by the end of 2007," the statement said. The company said it would launch MP3 players, mobile phone cards, USB flash drives and high-end performance digital-imaging cards in 12 Indian cities initially. "India's emergence as a technology leader and its rising per-capita income are creating opportunities for us in these categories," said Sanjay Mehrotra, president at SanDisk. SanDisk will partner with Ingram Micro and Rashi Peripherals for its retail push, the statement said. |
