GTA IV (PC) Off to a Rocky Start

Grand Theft Auto IV may have been a technical marvel on next gen consoles but it seems PC users have been shafted (once again) as early reports indicate that the PC port of GTA IV is riddled with technical issues. Some of them are minor, causing delayed texture loading while some of them are a lot more serious causing the game to crash over and over again. Users who’s systems have met the recommended system requirements are not being able to run the game with acceptable frame rates and in some cases certain users just cannot get the game to start in the first place. To play multiplayer on the PC, players have to log into Rockstar’s Social Club but it seems that doing so causes a lot of the crashes and due to the heavy load on Rockstar’s servers, the Social Club itself seems to be down at regular intervals. GTA4.net recommends you sign out of the Social Club since this has helped many a users but remember this – you need a Games for Windows Live account to save your progress in the single player campaign as well. This isn’t too much of a big deal for current Xbox Live users since you can use your existing gamertag here but for others it’s a bit of a headache. Luckily you can create a free account which means you don’t have to have an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play this game. I really hope Rockstar comes out with a hotfix soon enough or they’ll forever loose the trust of PC gamers, most of who at this point in time are feeling a tad betrayed. Head over to the GTA4.net forums to educate yourself a bit more about this game's many glaring issues. Oh and just so you know GTA IV will be releasing in India this week for just Rs. 499. |
