Blizzard Closes 76,000 WoW Accounts

14 Oct, 2006, 12:00 pm IST | by Nikhil Singh | PC

As the number of Massive Multiplayer online role-playing gamers increases out there, so do those who cheat in these MMOs. In a move to discourage such activity, World of Warcraft, having the largest subscription base out of any MMORPG out there, 'closed more than more than 76,000 accounts' and removed more than 11 million gold from the game economies in Europe, Korea, and the US in the month of September.

Here's what Blizzard had to say about this mass banning:

The closed accounts were associated with activities that violate World of Warcraft's Terms of Use, such as using third-party programs that allow cheating, and farming gold and items. These types of activities can severely impact the economy of a realm and the overall game enjoyment for all players.

This should make the game a lot more balanced for all you Azeroth dwellers out there.
