LotR: Online Seeks To Rule MMO Market

23 Feb, 2007, 5:17 pm IST | by Nikhil Singh | PC

With the MMORPG market growing so quickly, it's not surprising to see a ton of new MMOGs being developed, some big, while some small. One title that most MMOG enthusiasts have set their eyes on is Turbine Inc. and Midway's Lord of the Ring Online: Shadows of Angmar. With its vast lore and massive fan following, I wouldn't be surprised if the game does extremely well. But will it become as popular as, or surpass World of Warcraft's popularity? I have my doubts.

But Turbine says that striking the right balance could turn The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar into the biggest massively multiplayer game of all time. By the time LotR:O hits the 8 million mark (the number of customers WoW has) WoW would probably have surpassed that number by far and they'll have to work extra hard to ensure that they can win over WoW fans. Let's just wait and see how well the game does; I hope that they stay true to the lore and don't make a mockery out of J.R.R Tolkein's work.
