Metal Gear Solid 4 25th Anniversary Edition to be launched next month

| by Shunal Doke | PlayStation 3

Origin, a games distributor, has announced that it will launch the 25th Anniversary Edition of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots in India. The game is expected to hit the shelves in the first week of December, and is set to cost Rs 1,599.

While the game is still more-or-less the same; the 25th Anniversary Edition has two changes. The first is support for Trophies on the PlayStation 3. The game was originally launched when the PS3 didn't have the Trophy system, and so the game never got Trophies. The second change is that the game will only have a one time install. The original game requires you to install each chapter when you get there, and it will automatically uninstall the previous chapter. This was done because during the time of the game's original launch, the PS3 did not have a large HDD, and could not support the installation of overly large games.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is chronologically the last title in the Metal Gear series as it follows an aging and exhausted Solid Snake who is still on his quest to find and defeat Revolver Ocelot, now known as Liquid Ocelot in the middle of a futuristic battlefield.

In spite of his failing body, Snake is equipped with a crucial new device tentatively known as 'OctoCamo', a high-tech suit that dynamically transforms its texture based on Snake's surroundings. This revolutionary new game play mechanic allows him to seamlessly blend into the environment, providing him with the means to stalk his enemies like never before.

Here's hoping the sequel has more gameplay than Metal Gear Solid 4 did

Old Snake on his last mission

After more than two decades of service, Solid Snake is finally receiving an honourable discharge in the latest chapter in the Metal Gear Solid franchise. While this is Snake's final mission, he isn't going quietly into that good night. This is his last mission as he attempts to stop the plans of the Patriots, as well as the spirit of his brother/clone, Liquid Snake, who has possessed the body of Revolver Ocelot.

The next game in the Metal Gear universe is the upcoming Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance - a spinoff developed by Platinum Games. The game foregoes the stealth-heavy gameplay of the previous titles in the series in favour of Devil May Cry-like combat-focused gameplay.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is set in the near future, where cyborg technology has become commonplace throughout society. Three years have passed since the collapse of the Patriots system that had been secretly controlling the global power balance from the shadows. However, peace remains elusive. The dissemination of cybernetic technology has triggered instability and conflict as those who control the trade gain increasing power. Furthermore, large ‘Private Military Companies’, or PMCs that had been supported and controlled by the Patriots have collapsed, spawning countless rogue entities with origins to larger criminal organisations. These renegade PMCs employing cyborg technology have become increasingly more disruptive, shifting policy and power at will. As a member of the peace-keeping PMC ‘Maverick Security’, Raiden lives by the mantra of protecting and saving lives. But as the world plunges further into asymmetric warfare, the only path that leads him forward is rooted in resolving his past and carving through anything that stands in his way.
