PSN Restoration Put on Hold in Japan

PlayStation Network users from all over the world are gaining access back into Sony’s online multiplayer service; however Japan seems to be left out of the phased restoration process. The Japanese government has put the breaks on the service until they are given assurances by Sony that the network is safe.

Kazushige Nobutani, Director of the Media and Content Industry Department at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said that he met with Sony on May 6th and 13th. He goes on to say that as of May 13, Sony was incompetent in exercising measures that they said they will do on the May 1 press conference. He goes on to say that there were similar cases in the past that were caused by other firms, and they are asking Sony whether their measures are good enough when compared to countermeasures taken in the past.

In a statement made by Sony announcing the phased restoration of the service in US and Europe, the company said that they are taking aggressive action at all levels to address the concerns that were raised by this incident, and are making consumer data protection a full-time, company wide commitment. Spokeswoman for Sony, Kumie Tanaka said that they were in talks with various authorities in Japan. They were hopeful of announcing the end of the outage in Japan once these talks were over.
