PSN to be Fully Restored by Weekend

The Sony PlayStation Network and all its services including the PlayStation Store are expected to be fully restored by the end of this week. The outage which has lasted more than a month and had frustrated many online gamers is set to come to an end according to an announcement on the PlayStation Blog.

Sony announced that the services would resume fully by the weekend in areas such as America, Europe and Asia excluding Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea. Details on the excluded areas, as well as the Qriocity service would be announced as soon as they become available.

Sony also said that they had implemented considerable security enhancements to the network infrastructure, as well as conducted testing of the payment process and commerce functions. Sony goes on to say that the full restoration of PlayStation Network as well as part of services to become available on Qriocity will include full functionality on PlayStation Store, in-game commerce, ability to redeem vouchers and codes, full functionality on Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3, PSP, VAIO and other PCs as well as full functionality on Media Go.

Speaking in the post, Sony’s Kazuo Hirai, Executive Deputy President said that they have been conducting additional testing and further security verification of our commerce functions in order to bring the PlayStation Network completely back online so that their fans can again enjoy the first class entertainment experience they have come to love. He goes on to say that the company appreciates the patience and support shown during this time.

In addition to the above services being restored, customers would also be able to purchase and download games and video content from the PlayStation Store on PS3 or PSP.
