Sony Points Finger at Anonymous, Sort of

| by Aaron Almeida | PlayStation 3

As the PlayStation Network outage stretches on, Sony has been facing a backlash from EU governments, as well as the US congress. Sony points finger at hacker group Anonymous

In a letter addressing the issue, Sony’s Kaz Hirai has responded saying that they are not fully sure what has been taken but that personal information from at least 77 million users have been stolen. They hope though that credit card information hasn’t been taken but they still aren’t sure at this point. Sony does state that they had 12.3 million credit card numbers in their file and that 5.6 million of them are from the US.

This is finally some substantial information from Sony that has shed more light on a subject that has been leaving the whole planet relatively clueless.

Sony said that investigators inspecting the matter have found a file on one of their servers named ‘Anonymous’ with the words ‘We Are Legion’ in it. The hacker group Anonymous previously denied any involvement regarding the current outage of the PSN.

It is difficult to draw more conclusions regarding this since Sony themselves aren’t sure about all of the above. As for now, we have to just wait and see how all of this plays out.
