The Nook with colour is here and positions Barnes and Noble one step ahead of Amazon and the Kindle. This new device is based on Android 2.1 and uses a 7 inch colour LCD display. Connectivity to Facebook and Twitter is included and one of the more impressive features, it can play video. This device seems to be almost an Android tablet (I say almost because there's no Android Marketplace) and if it had a phone function, we'd have a reason to carry two seven inch products around at the same time. A strong priority the device has is social networking. A feature entitled, "Nook Friends" exists where users can share their favourite books and quotes with their internet friends. Other apps like Pandora, Wikipedia, games, access to Google also exist. However, due to the lack of Android Marketplace, adding apps is a small challenge. In terms of hardware, the device doesn't come with any physical buttons. It has a 1024x600 7 inch laminated screen, a MicroSD slot and Wifi. It weighs 15.6 ounces and has a thickness of .48 inches. It will sell for $249.99 from November 19th. The reason we say that adding more apps is a small challenge and not entirely impossible is the MicroSD card slot. Applications could potentially be added to the card and uploaded onto the device. Of course, this is a very 'using your right hand to scratch your left ear' process but hey, it gets the job done and could save you from needing to buy a tablet in addition. SOURCE: Crunchgear |
