Michael Robertson Thinks the Zune Will Flop

09 Oct, 2006, 4:30 pm IST | by Aalaap Ghag | PMPs

The man behind MP3.com, Linspire, SIPphone, etc., Michael Robertson, has openly claimed that Microsoft's iPod-killer, the Zune media player, will be "the biggest flop of 2007 with less than 50,000 units sold worldwide."

He attributes the impending unpopularity to the proprietory, incompatible DRM system used in the Zune that doesn't gel well with even Microsoft's own PlaysForSure program, so music downloaded via PlaysForSure stores will not work on the Zune. And this, Robertson believes, will be the reason for the fall of the Zune.

I know I'm not going to jump up and grab the Zune when it hits the shelves, but that's because 30 GB is too less for me and, besides, I'm a cheapskate.
