Sony has announced the launch of their new PMP player, the Sony Walkman Z, according to a report by Engadget. The device was available for preview earlier at the IFA conference and was dubbed the ‘Walkman Mobile Entertainment Player’. The Walkman Z PMP player will operate on Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. ![]() Sony's new Walkman Z PMP player
The Sony Walkman Z will have a 4.3-inch WVGA display and it will run on a 1GHz Tegra 2 processor. The Walkman NW-Z1000 series comes in three models – 16GB, 32GB or 64GB sporting a red-black or black-blue colour combination. In addition to that, Sony is planning to launch a limited edition version of the PMP in early 2012 which will be an all-White model. Sony has loaded the device with HDMI out as well for streaming videos on the big screen. As part of the features, the company has also included the new ‘Throw’ feature that allows wireless streaming to a Bravia TV.
Pricing and availability for India haven’t been disclosed as of now, but as with most Sony devices, this one is expected to be widely available later this year. However, if Sony does want the slowly-dying PMP genre to be revived again, this PMP needs to be competitively priced. |
