VirginMega to sell DRM-free MP3s

18 Jan, 2007, 12:00 pm IST | by Aalaap Ghag | PMPs

The French store of VirginMega is planning to sell high-quality MP3 files without any sort of DRM copy protection, following their loss in the Apple FairPlay case.

In the suit, VirginMega demanded that everyone should have access to Apple's FairPlay DRM, but the Judge ruled against them.

The DRM-free music released by VirginMega will be 256kbps encoded and will be playable on any portable device or computer without any restrictions. The catalog of around 200,000 tracks will be available from this March onwards for French users.
