Canon announces PowerShot camera duo with DIGIC 5 processors

Canon recently announced two feature-rich digital cameras, the PowerShot S100 and the PowerShot SX40 HS. The main feature of these cameras is that they feature Canon’s new DIGIC 5 image processing engine. In addition to superior low-light performance and increased overall speed, these two cameras include HS SYSTEM, Full HD video capture, High-speed Burst HQ and Intelligent IS that provides clearer, smoother looking images.

Speaking at the unveiling of these new cameras, Yuichi Ishizuka, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Imaging Technologies and Communications Group, Canon U.S.A said, “The inclusion of the new DIGIC 5 image processor and Full HD recording capabilities on both new models will provide users with the tools needed to capture brilliant images and videos as they continue their photographic journey."

  • The S100 is based on the PowerShot S95, but comes loaded with a host of upgrades such as:
  • 12.1-megapixel CMOS image sensor
  • HS SYSTEM
  • 5x optical zoom
  • GPS functionality
  • ISO Sensitivity up to ISO 6400
  • 3.0-inch wide LCD screen
  • Ability to save images in RAW and JPEG

  • The Canon PowerShot SX 40 HS is a superzoom camera which includes features such as:

  • ISO Sensitivity up to ISO 3200
  • 2.7-inch wide vari-angle LCD
  • Improved Smart AUTO settings
  • Zoom Framing Assist button


The Canon PowerShot SX40 HS will be launched in the U.S. by late September and will be available at an estimated price of $429.99 (Rs.20,731). The release date of the PowerShot S100 is scheduled for an early November launch. The price of the S100 is $429 (Rs.20,731) as well. There is no word on the availability of these two models in India as of now.
