Linux Powers 2-pound Mini PC

German web retailer Manufactum has introduced a sleek, low-power mini PC that weighs just two pounds and runs on Debian Linux.

The Manuscriptum is based on a 500MHz AMD Geode LX800, equipped with an 80GB hard drive, and offers 1920 x 1400 graphics, according to the company.

The mini PC, which has four USB ports (two on the back and two on the front), runs Debian Linux with a KDE desktop environment.

It also includes preinstalled versions of the OpenOffice office suite, Firefox Web browser, and Foxit PDF reader. It is also available with Windows XP if that's what you prefer.

The Manuscriptum is currently available for the price of €450 (around $650), and can be purchased online.

  • Power – about 12W, passively cooled
  • Dimensions – 7.1 x 4.4 x 1.9 inches (180 x 112 x 48 mm)
  • Weight – 32 ounces (920 gm)
