CES 2008: Seagate Introduces BlackArmor HDD

07 Jan, 2008, 2:11 pm IST | by Jayesh Mansukhani | External drives

Peripheral styling seems to be the new theme at CES this year. The latest company to hop on to this bandwagon is Seagate. The storage major through its Maxtor brand, has introduced the BlackArmor portable 160 GB HDD which sports a very smart exterior and styling. However the salient point of this HDD is not its styling but its features.

The HDD features an AES government-grade encrypting technology which is hardware-based and does not require any complicated software installation. This differs from other solutions as it puts all security keys and cryptographic operations within the device, delivering stronger protection against hacking and tampering than traditional software alternatives.

The BlackArmor weighing only 208g with dimensions of 131mm in length, 84mm wide and 16.5mm depth, incorporates a USB 2.0 interface connection. The product is expected to be available initially in a 160GB capacity in the second quarter of 2008, with a suggested retail price of $149.99.
