Cowon S9 Starts Shipping in the US

In August this year Cowon revealed what could be one THE most stylish looking PMP on the market – the S9. It was also evident at this year’s IFA and now the latest news is that the company has announced that the S9 will start shipping in the US. The COWON S9 features a titanium/black face and a curved-back casing surrounding a 3.3-inch AMOLED touch screen display (16 million colors with 48 0x 272 resolution). It has a GUI system sporting capacitive touch screen operation, advanced video functionality supporting transcoding-free playback of most DVD-quality MPEG-4 videos and TV output, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, an accelerometer, and a battery life of 11 hours for video and 55 hours for audio (according to the company). It also comes with next-generation JetEffect 2.0 audio technology with improved EQ filter, stereo enhancement and BBE+, which includes upgraded BBE, Mach3Bass, 3D Surround and MP Enhance audio processing. It reads AVI, WMV video formats with codecs for Xvid, SP/ASP, WMV9 SP/MP and MP3, WMA, FLAC, OGG, WAV, APE audio formats. Other features include a voice recorder with line in, FM radio, photo and text viewer and Flash player and a calculator. The COWON S9 is available with 8GB or 16GB internal flash memory and priced at Rs. 9, 526 ($199.99) and Rs. 11, 432 ($239.99) respectively. There’s no official word yet on when or even if the S9 will make it here, but a little birdie told me talks are in progress so let’s hope for the best. If it does make it we could expect a launch sometime in Jan of 2009 in all probability, so stay tuned. When we know, you’ll know. |
