Even after getting rock-bottom scores from us and reviewers all over, there's no stopping Aurona's horrendous excuse for a mythological themed game - Hanuman - Boy Warrior - from making the headlines. This time it's Hindus in New Zealand that are up in arms about this crap fest, but it's not the quality of the game that's bothering them. 19-year old Terry Moorthy who moved to New Zealand from Kerala last year, had this to say about the game: "It makes me very angry when I see my friends play a game where they can control the god's every movement with a joystick" "I feel like my faith is being insulted, but I don't know what my rights are in New Zealand." Terry, while I'm a Hindi too, I think my faith as a Gamer is more hurt by the terrible quality of this game, rather than my religious faith. In the studio's defense - quite frankly, I don't see why a developer's perspective towards a mythological theme should offend anyone, especially when it's not in distaste. I think game development is an interactive artform and shouldn't be curbed by religious or nationalist lines. But then again, when developers rely on religious themes just to juice money out of the faithful who game, it's a whole different kind of sickening feeling. And I'm pretty sure that many Indians don't share my view that all art-forms should be free in India, else great Indian artists like M.F. Husain would still be in the country rather than being driven away for expressing themselves freely. |
