Blu-ray Hardware Slows Down PS3 Production

The Blu-ray component that is planned to be a part of the PS3 is the primary cause of the few number of consoles they'll be able to launch this year.

The revolutionary high-definition storage disc reading capability will definitely give Sony's PS3 an edge against competitors Wii and the Xbox 360, but at what cost? Even Sony has agreed that this is why they won't be able to dish out as many PS3s as they previously hoped to, before the end of this year. Phil Harrison, head of Sony Computer Entertainment's Worldwide Studios said, "Yes, we have overreached in production of the Blu-Ray component—I can't deny that. But that's the price you pay for adopting brand new, leading-edge technologies that will be future proof. We will resolve those issues—we are already catching up.

We will continue to catch up on the production, and as you know, we haven't changed our full-year forecast of six million units, so we're only talking about a ramp-up issue."

I just hope that atleast a large portion of Sony's Console fans can get their Next-Generation-starved hands on the PS3 by Christmas... Please get your act together Sony!
