Scammers are creative. Here's one such example. Be alert to your ATM card sliding smoothly in or out of a machine. If it doesn't you may have been targeted by a "skimmer," a tiny device that reads the magnetic strip on your card. Scammers can then create a fake card by transferring your data to the magnetic strip on a gift card and with the help of a tiny camera capture your PIN, and empty your bank account. Gift cards reportedly work perfectly because they are small and the magnetic strip is in the right location. |
