Apple, HP, Alcatel-Lucent, Dell sued by WiLAN over wireless patents

Mulitiple wireless patents holding, Canadian-based company, WiLAN, has filed a patent infringment lawsuit. The technology innovation and licensing firm filed the lawsuit with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Tyler Division alleges that Apple, Dell, Alcatel-Lucent, HP, among others have violated wireless patents in WiLAN's possession. According to a CNET report, the infringment-affected patent numbers are - RE37,802 and 5,282,222; each pertaining to CDMA, HSPA and Wi-Fi and (Long Term Evolution) LTE, respectively. WiLAN, as per this report is known for 'initiating litigations' to get its patents licensed. As many as 250 companies have their patents licensed from WiLAN. The report further reveals that during one of the shareholder meetings, WiLAN chief referred to these litigations as the reason behind their "record revenues" during its Q1.
It now remains to be seen what the next move will be. |
