Are our ISPs Blocking Blogspot?

12 Feb, 2011, 2:12 pm IST | by Sriram Gurunathan | Services

It looks like lots of Indians are having issues connecting to blogging site Blogspot today. While you could excuse a temporary delay for maintenance, this case seems to run a lot deeper because users on some ISPs can access the website while some, mostly Airtel Broadband users, cannot. When it gets to this, you really have to ask the scary question: Is your ISP blocking Blogspot?

Blogstop

I’ve spoken to a few people who’re using Airtel Broadband and none of them can access the website, but my FiveNet connection seems to be able to connect to it without a worry in the world. While it remains unclear exactly which ISPs have started blocking Blogspot, the fact that it is happening cannot be denied. Strangely enough, Blogger's working fine for everyone.

This isn’t the first time something like this has happened either. A few years ago, under a directive from the Ministry of Communication Blogspot, TypePad and Geocities were blocked. It was reverted after a while, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Government was behind this too.

I don’t understand this, I really don’t. Anyway, how’s it working out for you? Leave us a comment below with your ISP and let us know if you can access Blogspot or not, or if you’re having troubles with any other website.
