Google-owned video sharing site, YouTube, is in trouble over clips of the Oscar ceremony, which were shown without permission of the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the organizers of the annual Academy (Oscar) awards. YouTube defied a request by Academy Of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, to remove clips of the event. Academy Executive Administrator, Ric Robertson stated that the content should be pulled out to help manage the value of the telecast and the brand. The organizers are miffed with the video sharing site, especially because the official website, Oscar.com features only a five-minute clip of highlights from the three hour, 51 minute show, while YouTube covers almost the entire event in clips. Incidentally, the free Oscar clips on YouTube, especially those of Ellen DeGeneres's opening monologue and the musical numbers, have received close to 2,50,000 views between Sunday and Tuesday. |
