After Acer, Yahoo! has tied up with another PC vendor, Hewlett-Packard (HP) to offer its services on all HP desktop computers and laptops sold in Europe and North America. In an effort to cater to local markets, Yahoo has also announced regional combinations of co-branded toolbars, along with a Yahoo! start page on the HP PCs. As part of the deal, Yahoo! is set as the default search engine on Microsoft's upcoming Internet Explorer 7 on HP consumer desktop and notebook PCs. Dan Rosensweig, chief operating officer, Yahoo! Inc said, "Partnering with a company like HP, that has been a leader in its industry for many years, puts Yahoo! in an excellent position to be able to distribute our most widely adopted offerings, like Yahoo! Search and the new Yahoo! Mail, to an even broader audience across the globe. This relationship is an important component of Yahoo!'s overall strategy to partner with leading global brands that will enable us to further extend our products and services to the world's community of Internet users." The Yahoo! and HP co-branded toolbar will enable HP customers to search the Web, get Yahoo! email alerts, access HP customer services and protect their PCs from pop-up advertisements. In Europe, the Yahoo! start page will automatically appear when a browser is opened on the HP computer, giving access to Yahoo! services such as Yahoo! Music, Yahoo! Sports Yahoo! Finance and Yahoo! News. Iin North America, HP will set Yahoo! as the default search engine on Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7, once available, on HP consumer PCs. Read more here. |
