8MP Cam, Xenon Flash, HDMI On-Board New MILESTONE XT720

Motorola’s MILESTONE, like quite a few of MOTO’s other famous phones, (you will remember the RAZRs), has had a bit of a refurbish and has been announced, all shiny and new as the MILESTONE XT720.  What are the new additions? Well for one thing the 5MP camera has now been upped to 8 megapixels complete with Xenon flash making this the first Android device to have it. Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X10 just got bumped down a few notches. It also seems to have shed a bit of weight i.e. the slide out QWERTY keyapd is gone slimming the handset down to just 10.9mm. I have mixed feelings about this. The OS has also been upped to Android 2.1.

The MILESTONE XT720 will also feature -
  • A 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen with multi-touch capabilities and a 480 x 854 pixel resolution
  • 3G support (HSDPA up top 10.2 mbps), Wi-Fi with DLNA support thrown in
  • GPS with A-GPS and it’ll also come with Motorola’s MOTONAV GPS app
  • Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, USB 2.0 (micro)
  • 8MP camera with Xenon flash, face/smile detection Geo-tagging and 720 video recording
  • FM radio
  • microSd card support (up to 32GB)
  • 3.5mm handsfree socket

The upgraded camera will also feature up to 10x digital zoom and come with a host of new settings including -
  • Smart image capture: includes easy panorama, face detection, multi-shot (six shots in a row), face filter, red eye reduction, camera shake prevention and more, to improve the image quality and variety
  • HDMI out: HDMI cable included
Sadly what I don’t see in the long list of impress specs is the inclusion of the MOTOBLUR UI or multiple video codec support for DivX or XviD formats. It’s ARM Cortex A8 processor will be more than capable to handling multitasking and pretty much anything else an Android handset is capable of dishing out.

For now it seems like it’s heading for Europe first with no price tag to be found. It should come by our end as well considering the current MILESTONE seems to be doing very well with sales figures. Here’s hoping.
