Motorola Reinvents The RAZR

16 May, 2007, 2:00 pm IST | by Shayne Rana | Smartphones

Motorola has unveiled the RAZR2 that promises to be everything like the RAZR of old, only better. The drastically upgraded model is 2mm slimmer than the original and is equipped with 2 GB of onboard memory. The dual screens have also been enhanced - the external screen is now 2.0-inches and the internal screen is 2.2-inches with twice the resolution of its predecessor.

"With the modern style and powerful performance of RAZR2, Motorola is once again redefining the cell phone," said Ed Zander, Motorola’s chairman and chief executive officer. "This device takes the world’s best-selling feature-phone to the next level. Combining groundbreaking new features and an even slimmer exterior than the original icon, the RAZR2 is capable of giving consumers the ultimate mobile experience."

Durability is also something the manufacturer has sought to enhance with their new and improved RAZR, with the external screen having a chemically hardened display glass to provide the user with a better scratch resistant surface. The internal frame is made form stainless steel. The hinge of the new RAZR is cast in aluminum and has been tried and tested around 100,000 times, claims Motorola, to ensure that the device will work perfectly no matter how many times it may be opened and closed.

Only some versions of the RAZR2 will run on Linux/Java. Among other updates the phone's new UI has settings that can recognize the type of messages that users might be sending. The new ARM 11 processor is about 10 times faster than the older version and with USB 2.0 compatibility data transfer is also quicker. Like the Motoming the RAZR2 also uses the “Talking phone” technology that voices out messages and menus. CrystalTalk is a technology that the manufacturer uses that adjusts audio levels in noisy environments to ensure clarity.
